How can I test SMTPS access?
Posted by John Imison on 12 January 2009 09:03 PM
To test if SMTPS is working on your server you can connect manually from the linux command line to the SMTPS service using the following command:

openssl s_client -connect hostname:465

This should display the SSL certificate when you connect and then hopefully prompt you with a SMTP 220 code and hostname.  Just entering quit will exit you out.

The has proved that you can connect to the SMTP server over an encrypted connection.
