Linux Plesk 9.3 to 9.5.2 upgrade (CentOS 5.5 x64)
Posted by John Imison on 22 October 2010 10:41 AM
This article applies to Plesk 9.3 for Linux running on CentOS Linux 5.5 64 bit including the ART PHP/MySQL packages.

Please note:
before starting the upgrade procedure please contact IDAQ Support and let us know.  Parallels changed their licensing model a while back and licenses we originally purchased from them for Plesk 7.x, 8.x and 9.x may not be valid for upgrade to Plesk 9.3/9.5.2.  Parallels changed their licensing model and we now have to lease licenses from them.
  1. Make a full system backup and ensure backups work
  2. Upgrade Plesk 9.3 to the latest 9.3 updated version via control panel (if not already)
  3. Plesk control panel (System->Updates) may still be saying updates available for 9.3, so, log in via command line and run:
    /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/autoinstaller --upgrade-installed-components --select-release-current

This should upgrade the Plesk 9.3 installation to the latest Plesk 9.3 packages.
  4. Then, select Plesk 9.5.2 from the System->Updates menu and select most packages that have available updates except for application pack.
  5. Before starting the upgrade:  the upgrade process can take between 20-50 minutes depending on the number of sites and features enabled.  At one stage the Plesk upgrade procedure shuts down the webserver and runs a quota check.  Checking quota on a system with many sites and large hard drives can take over 30 minutes alone.
  6. Start the upgrade and if you want, on the command line you can follow progress by running: tail -f /tmp/autoinstaller3.log
  7. Now, hopefully Plesk 9.5.2 has installed

This upgrade was relatively pain free and resolved a bug in horde webmail.

You may need to manually start spam assassin as it appears that it was not restarted after the upgrade process.  From command line run: service psa-spamassasin start
