Does the Windows VPS include a firewall?
Posted by John Imison on 01 March 2006 04:36 PM
The Windows vServer virtual machines comes with the standard Windows Firewall which the user may enable when the vServer is administered via RDP. You may configure the Windows firewall by selecting: Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall

In the General tab select "On". In the Exceptions tab make sure you tick "Remote Desktop" and add any other ports/protocols/applications that you will be using. (Note: Not adding entries into the Exceptions tab may cause connectivity problems). Then click Ok.

You have now successfully configured the Windows Firewall.

You may also use the "netsh firewall" set of commands to enable/disable and configure your firewall.
